Robert Emmiyan (Armenian: Ռոբերտ Էմմիյան; born February 16, 1965 in Leninakan)[1] is a retired long jumper who represented USSR and later Armenia. His personal best jump of 8.86 metres, which he achieved in Tsakhkadzor in May 1987, is the current European record and also the fourth best result of all time (after those of Mike Powell, Bob Beamon and Carl Lewis).

His achievements include a silver medal at the 1987 World Championships as well as European Indoor gold medals. He also won the gold medal at the 1986 European Championships with a jump of 8.41 metres, which was the championship record. He was a two-time participant at the Summer Olympics, in 1988 for the Soviet Union and again in 1996 for Armenia.[1]

Emmiyan currently lives in France.

An annual track and field meeting in Artashat, Armenia has been held in his honour since 2001 – the Emmiyan Cup.[2]
